Hokuto Shinken (Chinese and Japanese: 北斗神拳; pinyin: Bĕidòu Shénquán; Cantonese Jyutping: Bak Dau San Kyun; ) is starting time described equally an 1,800 years old (two,000 years in the Television series and 1986 pic) Chinese assassin'south fine art formed during the late Eastern Han Dynasty.

In the globe of Hokuto no Ken, Hokuto Shinken's origins are said to take been born around the rise of the Yellowish Turban Rebellion, but where the Angelic Emperor of China was assassinated, and from this, chaos immediately erupted throughout the land amid those that desired to rule the new gap of power that in one case was occupied by the throne. The clan of Hokuto Sōke, seeing China existence swept in turmoil and chaos upon the demise of the emperor, desired to find an cease to these troubled times, and decided that the birth of a new heir would be needed.

The destined heir, Shuken, came to be Hokuto Shinken'due south founder upon blending his antecedent's art of Hokuto Sōke no Ken and the Yuezhi People's martial art called Seito Gekken.

Over time, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saw Hokuto Shinken undergo a schism; Hokuto Soka Ken served Cao Cao, Hokuto Sonka Ken served Sun Quan, and Hokuto Ryuka Ken served Liu Bei. At the end of this era, it was Hokuto Soka Ken that rose to become the defining martial fine art of Hokuto Shinken.

Prior to the events of Hokuto no Ken in the manga, the successor of Hokuto Shinken was Ryūken, who won the successorship against his rival Kōryū. Ryuken then trained four adopted sons; Raoh, Toki, Jagi and Kenshirō in the art. Kenshiro was chosen by Ryuken to go his successor, although the other brothers still used the way due to Ryuken'southward decease at the hands of Raoh. In the prequel series Souten no Ken, Ryuken (or Ramon Kasumi, as he is chosen) is revealed to have been the 63rd G Principal of Hokuto Shinken, preceded past his elder one-half-brother Kenshirō Kasumi, the 62nd M Master. The 2 brothers learned the style from their begetter, Tesshin Kasumi, the 61st Grand Master, thereby making the Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star the 64th Grand Master.

Description

The art's power is focused into channeling one'due south energy in a single blow and striking into the 708 Keiraku Hikō (経絡秘孔, "Hidden Channeling Points") points in the human torso (as well known as acupressure points, ability points, vital points, tsubo, etc.). These pressure points destroy the enemy from inside, and causes the victim to explode, be controlled involuntarily or otherwise incapacitated. It tin also be used to heal sure physical and psychological wounds, such as restoring a person'south voice, eyesight or memories, though the main purpose of Hokuto Shinken is assassination. When trying to destroy or manipulate a target, a pressure level point must be struck with great strength and accuracy. Conversely to cause a healing effect, the pressure level points must be touched with precise gentleness. In either case a great level of skill is required to trigger the desired effects. An inexperienced user may cause an alternative reaction or simply goose egg, and in the near extreme cases it tin backfire.

While a normal fighter uses 30% of his natural abilities, a Hokuto Shinken successor knows how to apply his remaining lxx% using Tenryū Kokyū Hō (転龍呼吸法 Art of Dragon'southward Breathing). A Hokuto Shinken successor can too resist attacks on the pressure points with the Hikō Fūji (秘孔封じ, Pressure level Point Sealing), copy techniques afterwards witnessing them merely one time with Suieishin (水映心, Water Reflection Spirit) and also derives power past using Tōki (闘気) or fighting aura to employ the human torso'southward full potential, radiating it from their own body as an aura (Tōki no Aura - Fighting Spirit Aura) whilst focusing it for attacks. It can be used to launch ki-based attacks that can exist used to strike targets (even tiny ones, like the Keiraku Hiko) at long range, or, to defend the user from set on.

Like other martial arts, there are soft and hard aspects to Hokuto Shinken. Soft aspects focus on accurateness, fluidity and directness to properly aim for specific meridians with untold agility. Difficult aspects focus on strength, form and forcefulness to deliver powerful and indiscriminate attacks at many meridians on the body.

Though Hokuto Shinken finds ability through the internal workings of the torso, its truthful strength lies in the power of love. "Honey" can be driven from the power of friendship, fraternal bonds between brothers, or romantic ties. Beloved can only be realized within a user through knowing truthful loss and sorrow. It is agreement and accepting this emotion that refines its techniques and separates information technology from copycat users. Skillful users of Hokuto Shinken tin perfectly mimic the techniques of the people they respect in their hearts.

Due to its deadliness, Hokuto Shinken follows the Isshi Sōden (一子相伝) tradition: it can but exist passed down from one male parent to one son, and there tin just be one successor per generation according to the art's police. Students who neglect the successorship must renounce the style voluntarily or risk having their memories erased or their fists crushed. Because of this, at that place has been great competition over who gets to exist the successor. Due to its importance in history, the role of Hokuto Shinken'southward successor is intertwined not just with the diplomacy of the governing powers of the land, but besides with Taoist astrology and legend. Furthermore, it is too said to exist the second guardian of the Angelic Emperor, with its duty jump to protect the innocent, uphold peace, and become the merciless judge and punisher of evil under the skies of the world.

Belatedly in the series, it is revealed that the founder of Hokuto Shinken is a human named Shuken of the Hokuto Sōke (北斗宗家) bloodline and the antecedent of Kenshiro and Hyoh. Souten no Ken further develops the origins of Hokuto Shinken, where information technology is revealed that Hokuto Shinken is a blending of Shuken'due south original Hokuto Sōke no Ken and the Keiraku Hikō techniques of Seito Gek Ken.
